What the HFOBR is all about

The Hamilton-Fairfield-Oxford Board of REALTORS® was originally formed as the Hamilton Board in 1917, many years later, Fairfield and Oxford joined the Hamilton Board to make the HFOBR what it is today, a non-profit, professional trade association that is dedicated to setting high levels of professional practice for its members, protecting private property rights, and the promotion of the American Dream.

At the HFOBR, we strive to encourage our members to foster higher ethical standards in our profession; to take an active interest in the welfare of the community; and to develop service as the basis of worthy enterprise, to be considerate, informed and reliable; a person of purposeful energy and studied action …a REALTOR®.

Before you file an complaint

1. Please read through the Articles of the Code of Ethics before writing your complaint. And be sure to read the Functions of the Grievance Committee for limitations on our process. As you compose your written complaint, cite an Article or Articles that you feel have been violated in any way.
2. Complete, sign and date the complaint form. Attach an explanation of the situation surrounding the complaint. Be as specific as possible. State what, when, where, why and how, etc., you think each Article was violated.
3. Attach copies of any and all pertinent documents such as listing agreements, agency agreements, HUD statements, purchase and sales agreements, addendums, etc.
4. Send the entire package, keeping a copy for yourself, to the Hamilton-Fairfield-Oxford Board of REALTORS®, attention: Grievance Committee. Your complaint will then be processed.
   
   The basis for filing a complaint against a REALTOR® should be an allegation by the complainant that a REALTOR® violated one or more of the articles of the Code of Ethics of the National Association of REALTORS®

1. You must be honest, truthful and of good reputation.
2. You must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
3. You must be sponsored by an Ohio Real Estate Broker
4. You must not have been convicted of a felony or crime of moral turpitude, adjudged by a court to have violated any civil rights laws regarding real estate within the past two years, or violated any rules of the Ohio Division of Real Estate
5. If you were born after 1950, you must have a high school diploma or its equivalent as recognized by the Ohio Department of Education.
6. Complete the four required classroom courses
7. Pass the State of Ohio Real Estate Salespersons Exam.

   If you meet these simple criteria, you are eligible to become a Real Estate Sales Agent in the state of Ohio. For more information on becoming a Real Estate Salesperson.
